Islamabad: Pakistan Medical and Dental Council will hold elections for its countrywide members on April 24.

According to PMDC Election Committee Chairman Professor Manzoor Hussain, doctors and dentists registered with PMDC will be eligible to participate in the electoral exercise meant to pick one member each from Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad Capital Territory, Federally Administered Tribal Areas, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from among those with at least 10 years good standing in the medical and dental profession according to the record of the council and with residency of the respective province/region as per the PMDC record.

The elections are to be held in pursuance of clause (e) and (g) of sub- section (1) of Section (3) of the Medical and Dental Council (Amendment) Act. XIX 2012. Candidates from Islamabad Capital Territory, Federally Administered Tribal Areas, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are to produce proof of residency in their respective regions and employer certificates along with nomination papers.

The committee will receive nomination papers from candidates until April 3 and scrutinise them on April 5 at PMDC office in Islamabad. There will follow the issuance of the final list of candidates. The elections were to be held earlier but could not take place due to some internal administrative problems. A countrywide list of eligible voters has already been finalised for the electoral exercise.
