LAHORE
Geographic information system laboratory has been set up in Punjab Forest Department for helping in development steps, management and checking of forests on scientific basis at a cost of Rs50 million.
In the light of the information obtained on scientific basis from the laboratory, not only forests will be protected but information will also be got about the resources and steps taken for increasing the forest.
This was disclosed by Provincial Minister for Forests, Wildlife and Fisheries Malik Muhammad Asif Bha Awan while presiding over a department meeting.
The minister said that highly qualified and experienced staff had been recruited for looking after technical matters and benefiting from this laboratory which included manager geographic information system, geographic information analyst, data analyst, draftsman and computer operator. The laboratory will work under the control of conservator working plan.
He said that comprehensive information would be obtained from this laboratory in a very short period. He said that the preparation of maps of forests was being made through geographic information system which include collecting record from Revenue Department and technical information of forest.
