GCU, UE get acting VCs

Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) Wednesday appointed acting vice-chancellors (VCs) at Government College University (GCU) and University of Education.
Prof Dr Muhammad Aslam, the most senior professor of GCU, has been given the charge of acting VC of the university and Dr Amin Uddin, principal University of Education’s, Dera Ghazi Khan, as acting VC University of Education, Lahore. The decision, however, has attracted strong criticism from teaching and non-teaching staff of the varsities who argue the acting charge could be given earlier when tenures of VCs of the two varsities expired in July.
Meanwhile, Prof Aslam while chairing a meeting of academic and administrative heads after assuming charge as acting VC of GCU vowed to ensure continuation of policies and merit in admissions. “I hope that the government will appoint the regular vice chancellor soon, and till then I will put in my utmost sincere efforts to ensure the smooth working of the university,” he added.
The meeting also deliberated upon the problems which are being faced by the various departments of the university due to the absence of vice chancellor since July 24, 2015, especially in the wake of the new academic session that is going to commence next week. The acting VC was also briefed about the various development projects of the university.
Talking to heads, Prof Aslam said he had been teaching at this great institution, GCU, for the last twenty years and never compromised on merit. He called upon heads to ensure punctuality among their staff members.
