Robber killed in ‘encounter’

LAHORE
Johar Town police killed a robber in an alleged encounter in its limits on Sunday. Policemen were performing duty at a picket when they spotted two bike riders and signalled them to stop for checking. But they opened firing which was retaliated by the police. As a result, a robber died while his accomplice escaped. Police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy.
killed: Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) killed two criminals and arrested the third one after an encounter in Sheikhupura District on Sunday.
Patrolling Post Khanpur, Sheikhupura received information that three armed persons snatched cash, mobile phone and ATM card from a constable Rizwan Iqbal. PHP team set up a picket and attempted to stop them but they opened fire on the PHP team which also retaliated in the same fashion. As a result, two culprits, who were later identified as Chand, a resident of Jandiala Sher Khan and Shoaib of Rehmanpura, died on the spot while their accomplice Hussain of Shahdara sustained injuries. The PHP team recovered three pistols, 27 bullets, cash Rs17,690, five cell phones, a bike and snatched belongings of PHP official from his possession.
Meanwhile, PHP arrested 13 criminals along with six proclaimed offenders and recovered 200kg unhygienic meat. PHP also reunited two children with their families.
OUTLAWS: SP CIA Umar Virk said CIA police rounded up 244 criminals including robbers and proclaimed offenders during the last three months and recovered booty worth Rs 6 lakh and weapons from their possession. He said five such proclaimed offenders were among the arrested 244 people whose names were included in the Red and Black Books and the three terrorists among the five were involved in 13 acts of terrorism in Lahore, Islamabad, and Gujranwala. He also distributed cash prizes and commendatory certificates among the officers who had shown outstanding performance during the last three months. He also issued show cause notices to in charge Rang Mahal, SI Muhammad Ashraf, in charge Manawan SI Waqar Ahmad, in charge Sarwar Road, SI. Naveed Anjum on poor performance. He said that CIA police had arrested three terrorists and recovered hand grenades and sophisticated weapons from their possession. He said CIA police under national action programme arrested 24 people for delivering provocative speeches and publishing and distributing religious hate material. SP CIA said that the police traced four cases of blind murder, two cases of kidnapping for ransom, four cases of robbery cum murder and 41 cases of street crime during the last three months. He said that the police traced 100 high profile cases including police encounter and extortion. He said police arrested 14 persons involved in an illegal sale and purchase of SIMs and recovered 3,000 SIMs from their possession. He said that the CIA police registered 148 cases and arrested 170 illicit arms carriers. Police recovered 300 Kalashnikovs, rifles, pistols and 40,000 bullets and cartridges. CIA police arrested 30 drug pushes and recovered 46kg Cahars, opium and 80 bottles of liquor from their possession.
BODY FOUND: A 70-year-old man was found dead in the limits of Lorri Adda police. Some passersby spotted the body of the man and informed the police. The man yet to be identified was an addict who might have died of natural causes, police said.
INJURED DIES: A man died in a local hospital two days after he received fatal injuries in a road accident in Factory Area. The victim yet to be identified was crossing the road when a car hit him. As a result, he received serious injuries. He was admitted to a local hospital where he expired.
FIRE: Household items including furniture were gutted when a fire broke out in a house near Sher Pao Bridge. The cause of the fire was said to be short circuit. Fire fighters rushed the scene and extinguished the fire. No casualty was reported.
ACCIDENTS: Motorway Police was playing a pivotal role to reduce accidents in Pakistan DIG Central Zone Mirza Faran Baig has said that every year about 1.7 million people die in road accidents around the world while 13,000 people die in Pakistan in which majority of number is that of children and youth. Addressing a gathering during his visit to Road Safety Training Institute (Driving School) in Lahore, he said Motorway Police was playing a pivotal role to reduce accidents in Pakistan.
