LAHORE
Strict security measures were taken by Lahore police during the Cantonment Board elections on Saturday.
More than 3,000 police officials were deployed on the occasion. They along with Garrison Security Force managed the security during elections. The participants were allowed entry after thorough checking. Cops used metal detectors and made voters pass through walk gates for checking.
Police officials continued patrolling and surveillance of the locality the whole day to monitor any suspicious activity and prevent any untoward incident. No unpleasant incident was reported on the day.
Traffic police: The City Traffic Police Lahore made special arrangements during the Walton Cantonment Board election on Saturday.
About 458 wardens, 77 lady wardens, 60 patrolling officers, and 27 traffic inspectors including two lady inspectors were deployed on the occasion under the supervision of four DSPs and two SPs.
Chief Traffic Police Officer (CTO) Tayyab Hafiz Cheema visited Cantt and reviewed arrangements. Speaking on the occasion, he said they had made arrangements of parking besides maintaining uninterrupted flow of traffic. He lauded the efforts of the officers and wardens.
250 troops leave for Congo
A second flight of a batch of 250 Pakistan Army troops left here today to perform peace-keeping duties under the aegis of United Nations Mission in Congo.
Brigadier Shahid Manzoor bade them farewell at the Allama Iqbal International Airport. The departing troops will replace the already deployed Pakistan Army contingent in the war-ravaged country as part of the relieve and rotation schedule. Speaking to the troops, Brigadier Shahid Manzoor said that the blue barrets of Pak Army had rendered dedicated services for the restoration of peace all over the globe.
