LAHORE
The lights went out and the subtle glow of candles emerged as the provincial metropolis observed Earth Hour in unison with seven thousand cities of 162 countries across the globe.
Earth Hour started in 2007 as a World Wildlife Fund event in Australia and has grown to become a global message that citizens across the world must work together to fight climate change. The lights at all major government installations including the Provincial Parliament, Governor House and others went out in a symbolic awareness campaign towards conservation of energy and reduction in pollution.
Meanwhile, Earth Hour was also observed at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore by Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority from 8 30pm to 9 30 pm. During the earth hour 50% of non operational lights were turned off to show commitment to conserve Pakistan’s environment and natural treasures. The main event in Lahore was organized at a university, with hundreds in attendance.
