Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said the world is a battlefield and if we want to survive with respect, we will have to create new knowledge.
He was addressing the inaugural session of 10th biennial conference on “Microbes for Future Endeavors” organised by PU Microbiology & Molecular Genetics (MMG) in collaboration with Pakistan Society for Microbiology (PSM), Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and Office of Research Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC). According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, Vice Chancellor Women University Multan Prof Dr Shahida Husnain, Chairperson MMG Dr Anjum Nasim Sabri, President PSM and Ambassador American Society for Microbiology Prof Dr Shahana Arooj Kazmi, Director School of Biological Sciences Dr A R Shakoori, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Dr Muhammad Akhter, Dean Faculty of Economics & Management Sciences Dr Muhammad Ehsan Malik, renowned researchers from all over the country, faculty members and a large number of students participated in the event. Addressing the ceremony, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that the United States’ total GDP was around 17 trillion and it spent 2 to 3 percent (340 to 510 billion dollars) on research and development per year while Pakistan had a GDP of around 250 billion dollars only and was spending only 0.1 percent on research and development per year. He said young people would have responsibilities on their shoulders in future so they should master their subjects.
Shedding light on the evolution of subject of microbiology in Pakistan, Dr Shahana Arooj said that the credit of introducing subject or microbiology in Pakistan went to Ahmed Ali Anwar who established departments in various universities. She lauded the services of Dr Shahida Husnain in the field of microbiology. Dr Anjum Nasim Sabri said that the conference would provide a platform for young researchers to interact with scientists and senior researchers and share their experiences with each other. She announced research journal and said Dr Shahida Husnain Gold Medal and Dr AR Shakoori Gold Medal will be awarded to the distinctive students of MS and M Phil. Later, shields were distributed among the guests.
library: Punjab University Library will organise an inaugural and introductory ceremony regarding Prof Muhammad Iqbal Mujjaddidi’s personal library, which has been donated to PU Library, on Thursday (today) at 10am at library’s auditorium. PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran will preside over the ceremony, according to a press release issued here on Wednesday.
seminar: Punjab University Institute of Social & Cultural Studies will organise a seminar on ‘Encountering Violence - Recent Research on Pakistan in Comparative Perspective’ on Thursday (today) at 9:30am at its auditorium. According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin, PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Dean Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar and other experts will address the seminar.
