LAHORE
Traffic came to a halt on Thursday due to rain and extensive security for the inauguration ceremony of National Horse and Cattle Show in the City.
Long queues of vehicles were witnessed on Mall Road, Jail Road, Davis Road, Ferozpur Road and Canal Road.
The traffic was clogged due to the movement of VVIPs including President Mamnoon Hussain to inaugurate the show and rain and rush of visitors.
Citizens remained stuck on roads for hours and could not reach their destinations in time. Due to extensive checking of visitors at check points of Garrison Security Force (GSF) and police on Mall Road, Shami Road and Mian Mir Road leading to Fortress Stadium slowed down the movement of vehicles.
The CNICs of commuters were checked to allow them to move ahead which added load of traffic on the roads. The traffic on Jail Road was also jammed due to the influx of families toward Jilani Park.
Over 1600 traffic wardens were deputed on City roads to maintain the flow of traffic but they could not manage it. Citizens expressed their anger over the situation and said the government added to the woes and miseries of people even on cultural events.
