PPP wants Rangers deployed at all polling booths

The Pakistan People’s Party, the ruling party in the province, requested the Sindh Rangers on Tuesday to deploy at least one paramilitary soldier at each polling booth in every polling station in Karachi during the local government elections on December 5.
A delegation of PPP leaders including the party’s Karachi division president Syed Najmi Alam, general secretary Nadeem Bhutto, and special assistants to the chief minister Waqar Mehdi and Rashid Rabbani met with Sindh Rangers director general Maj Gen Bilal Akbar at the paramilitary force’s headquarters.
The PPP leaders told the Rangers director general that the deployment of paramilairty soldiers was necessary for maintaining peace in the run-up to the elections and also on the polling day.
They said besides the deployment of a paramilitary soldier at every polling booth, more Rangers personnel should also be deputed at each polling station along with police on polling day.
The PPP leader underlined the need for extensive deployment and intensified patrolling in the “sensitive” areas of the city, particularly near polling stations on and before the day of elections.
They also complained to the Rangers provincial chief about a political party forcibly collecting money under the pretext of donations from the public for its election campaign.
