A four-day campaign for administering the oral polio vaccine to children began in West, South and Malir districts on Monday.
The campaign aims to immunise around 1.1 million children under the age of five in these areas. Till September 10, 3,400 teams of volunteers will administer polio drops to children in 94 union councils of these three districts.
According to the officials of Sindh Expanded Program on Immunisation, stringent arrangements have been made for the vaccination drive
with 2,300 policemen and more than 200 Rangers’ personnel
deputed on security duties.
The second phase of four-day vaccination drive through polio drops will begin in East, Central and Korangi districts from September 11.
A total of 2.2 million children will be immunised against the polio at the end of both vaccination drives. Separate oral polio vaccine drives will follow in rest of the province from September 14 till 17 covering a total of 6.15 million children in the province.
