BSEK chief flays admission policy

The BESK chairman Anwar Ahmed Zai announced that from next year, the board will issue computerised enrolment and admit cards to students. He said the first 150 merit students would get Rs5,000 each, while in past such students used to receive Rs2,500 each.
He said the education department’s steering committee had set the August 15 as the deadline for announcement of board’s result, while it was July 31 for other boards. However, he said, the board office had compiled the results well before the deadline.
Zai criticised the new admission policy of government-run colleges. He said if the BSEK declared the result on August 15 or just before the due deadline, then students would surely face a hard time in getting admissions in public sector colleges.
He appreciated the BSEK employees for sacrificing their Eid vacations so they could prepare results within the deadline. As compared to the previous year, he observed, the overall pass percentage had decreased and said this had happened because the board had given preference to merit and did not compromise on rules.
“We have been using a secure computer programme to avoid any malfunctioning and forgery in results,” he said. “In case, anybody dared to make changes in examination result then the concerned official would be taken to task immediately.”
He declared that announcement of result was a day for the accountability of board’s officials, including himself, secretary and controller of examination. He said the BSEK would soon arrange a ceremony in honour of the position holders in which parents and heads of their schools would be provided merit certificates and awards.
Although the BSEK official claimed that the results failed students was uploaded on the board’s official website but no information in this regard was available online till the filing of this report. —Zeeshan Azmat
