An anti-terrorism court on Thursday issued arrest warrants for two police officers over their failure to show up for the hearing of an extortion case.
The ATC judge had, at an earlier hearing, ordered Inspector Tariq Ali and Inspector Fareeduddin to ensure their own, as well as other witnesses’ presence, at the next hearing, but come Thursday, neither the officers nor any witnesses turned up.
The ATC judge issued warrants for the two policemen’s arrest and directed authorities to produce them at the next hearing scheduled for April 7.
The case was registered against two men, Nauman Khalid and Muhammad Yaseen, who are charged with trying to extort money from a trader, Amjad Hussain, in March 2014. The police had arrested the accused red-handed during the exchange of money.
