Speakers at a meeting of the Shura Hamdard have called upon the government to promote science and technology education as it would help in utilising country’s natural resources.
The theme of the session held on Friday was ‘Natural Resource-rich Country and Rapid Advancement towards Progress and Development.’
Presiding over the meeting, Justice (Retd) Haziqul Khairi said the biggest human resource in the world is human brain and by using this, Japanese have made tremendous progress.
“Though the Japanese do not have any mentionable natural resources, however they achieved the status of a developed nation in the world.”
The former justice maintained that roads of the US were filled with Japanese cars and as a result of this development the American car-manufacturing industry has gone down.
President Hamdard Foundation Pakistan Sadia Rashid said that according to a saying of Hakim Said, Pakistan was bestowed upon with all those bounties and natural resources mentioned in Holy Quran by Allah Almighty.
She added but utilisation of all these bounties and natural resources could not be turned to account effectively without applying knowledge of science and technology. “So it is imperative that education of science and technology should be encouraged and introduced from primary classes and onwards.”
Former ambassador Mehdi Masud said that human character was more important than brain because without good character, human brain could not be positively used.
“National character plus chain of command were responsible for national growth and prosperity.”
Prof. Mohammed Rafi was of the view that the non-use of natural resources was also a negation of God s bounties.
Commodore (Retd) Sadeed Anwar Malik, while highlighting the natural resources, contended, “Our biggest natural resource was our strategic position but we have not taken full advantage out of this yet. “
Well-Known economist Dr Shahid Hassan Siddiqui said that God has given us natural resources with great generosity. But unfortunately we had not made long-term plans to explore and utilise them.
