A student group of Karachi University (KU) lodged a protest on University Road on Monday against a rise in fees.
They called the decision of the university’s administration to suddenly increase the fees as oppression.
They alleged that the administration had increased both the tuition (semester) and examination fees for no good reasons. They demanded immediate withdrawal of the fee increase.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Qasier clarified that the university had earlier increased the examination fee from Rs100 to Rs300, but the management later decided to reduce it to Rs150.
“Being a public sector university, all decisions are made to facilitate students. There is a dearth of funds, which has compelled us to increase the fees. The decision should not be taken as unfair,” he commented.
