LAHORE: An Additional District and Sessions Court on Friday jailed a drug pusher to three months in jail. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs. 2000 on the convict, Riaz alias Kali. In case of default, the convict will face one month more imprisonment. Shadbagh police had arrested Riaz alias Kali and seized 200 grams of hashish from his possession.

Punjab adviser meets parents of APS students

LAHORE: Adviser on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique met the parents of children of Army Public School (APS) Peshawar on Friday who had come to Lahore for treatment on the invitation of chief minister Punjab. Secretary Health Jawad Rafique Malik, Commissioner Lahore Abdullah Khan Sumbal, Director General Health Dr Zahid Pervaiz and MS Mayo Hospital Dr Amjad Shahzad were also present. Salman Rafique inquired from the parents about the details of the treatment being provided to their children in various hospitals.

Major Adil Sharif laid to rest
LAHORE: Funeral prayers for Major Muhammad Adil Sharif, who died in a tragic train accident near Gujranwala, was held at Lahore Garrison Friday. Commander Lahore Corps Lieutenant General Naweed Zaman, Director General Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) Major General Umar Farooq Burki, General Officer Commanding Major General Sardar Tariq Aman and a large number of army officers and soldiers attended the funeral prayers. He was laid to rest with full military honours at Army graveyard Cavalry Ground, Lahore. The ill-fated train that was heading towards Kharian from Pano Aqil with more than 300 passengers on board met a fatal accident near Jamke Chattha, Gujranwala due to a bridge collapse.

Cop arrested for taking bribe

LAHORE: Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab, Lahore Region, on Friday caught an ASI of Sarwar Road Police Station for taking bribe from an Assistant Superintendent, district Jail Jehlum. According to ACE officials, a jail official named Rana Latif had submitted a complaint with ACE Lahore Region alleging that an ASI named Nasrullah had demanded Rs10,000 for excluding the name of his brother from an FIR. According to Rana, the police officer was also demanding more money for the favor after collecting Rs 10,000. ACE Lahore officials, conducted a trap raid and arrested the accused ASI from outside Sarwar Road police station when he was accepting Rs 10,000 in bribe on Friday. After registering an FIR against the ASI, further investigations were underway.

Muslim world lacks sincere leaders: JI

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Ameer Hafiz Muhammad Idrees Friday said satanic forces are getting stronger owing to unavailability of sincere leadership in the Muslim world. Delivering Friday sermon at Mansoora mosque, Idrees said Muslims’ blood was being shed across the world and the Jews and the Christians were occupying the Muslim areas and were turning them slaves. He said due to disunity in Muslims the issues such as Kashmir and Palestine were not being resolved. He also said the issue of Myanmar Muslims would only be resolved after the unity of the Ummah.

No casaulty in Peshawar blast

PESHAWAR: No casualty was reported as a bomb went off near a plaza on Grand Trunk Road early Friday. Police said unidentified attackers had planted explosives near Haleem Centre on GT Road close to the Gulbahar Police Station that went off early in the day. The blast partially damaged the entrance and smashed all the windowpanes of the plaza and nearby houses. No casualty, however, was reported in the blast.

Two alleged kidnappers held

PESHAWAR: Police during an action in Chamkani arrested a woman and her accomplice for allegedly kidnapping a student. Police said the woman and her male accomplice were arrested during the raid. They were wanted to police for kidnapping a student from Chamkani in May. Police have already recovered the student from Pabbi.
