Police obtain warrants against ARY TV owner, six others

ISLAMABAD: Abpara Police has obtained non-bailable warrants of the owner of a private TV channel, Salman Iqbal and six team members of the programme “Khara Sach” in the anti-judiciary banners case. The inspector of Abpara Police Station appeared before area magistrate and maintained that owner of the private TV channel, ARY, Salman Iqbal, senior producer of programme “Khara Sach” Rao Owais, Social Media and IT Manager Danial Iqbal, Programme Producer MB Zohaib, Producer Shaikh M Naveed, Afifa Rao and Non-Linear Editor Adeel Ahmad are out of the limits of Islamabad and arrest warrant is required to proceed out of the district. SHO Abpara Khalid Awan, when contacted, confirmed obtaining the non-bailable arrest warrants of the said accused in the anti-judiciary banners case.

APNS condoles demise of journalist’s mother
KARACHI: Secretary General of All Pakistan Newspaper Society (APNS) Sarmad Ali, on behalf of the executive committee and office-bearers, expressed condolence over the death of mother of chief editor of Daily Abaseen, Rahim Yar Khan.All office-bearers and executive committee members prayed to Allah Almighty for salvation of the soul of the mother of Muhammad Arif.They prayed may Allah give courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss.

Dacoit killed in encounter with police, villagers

OKARA: A dacoit was killed in an encounter with the police and villagers at Maddha Phatak near Basirpur on Tuesday. Jalal Din was on his way when some dacoits snatched Rs25,000 from him. The dacoits also shot at and injured him. On seeing the police and villagers, the dacoits opened fire on them. Police and villagers also retaliated. As a result, a dacoit was killed while the others fled. The killed dacoit was later identified as Javed alias Jeda of Assu Gang.

‘Disgruntled’ ANP workers question award of LG tickets

PESHAWAR: The disgruntled workers of Awami National Party (ANP) Tuesday expressed their reservations over issuing party tickets for the upcoming local government (LG) elections. Speaking at a press conference, Kamran Siddique, former district president, said the party leadership awarded tickets to their near and dear ones and ignored the ideological party workers in awarding tickets for the local government elections. They asked the party leadership to awarded tickets to sincere and devoted workers or else they would contest election as independent candidates.

2013 polls were rigged: ASWJ chief

TOBA TEK SINGH: Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) chief Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianvi on Tuesday said the 2013 general elections were rigged. Addressing a press conference at the Jamia Farooqia at Kamalia, Ludhianvi said the previous decisions of the election tribunals (ETs) had proved rigging in the polls while all the political parties had admitted that elections were rigged. He said the ET’s decision against Khawaja Saad Rafique was not a new thing as already an ET had disqualified MNA Sheikh Muhammad Akram of NA-89 (Jhang) and declared him (Ludhianvi) as the winner. But the Supreme Court issued a stay order against the ET’s decision and so far the SC had not started hearing the appeal of Sheikh Akram.

Hazara University students get laptops

MANSEHRA: National Assembly Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi has said that federal government has been giving top priority to higher and technical education for the bright future of country. “The federal government has been giving priority to technical and higher education and 25,000 youth are imparted technical education in the country under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme,” Abbasi told the laptop distribution ceremony at the Hazara University (HU) on Tuesday. He said that those who got training under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme could earn respectable livelihood. An official of the HU said that more than 1200 laptops were distributed among male and female students of HU and 700 more would soon be distributed under the programme.

Man kills sister, her paramour

NOWSHERA: A man shot dead his sister and her alleged paramour in Jehangira area in the limits of Akora Khattak Police Station on Tuesday. Jamroz Khan reported to the police that he was informed that his brother Farhad and a girl were killed and their bodies were lying in the District Headquarters Hospital in Nowshera. He added that the girl had eloped with his brother two weeks back and were living in Mardan district. He added the brother of the deceased woman, Nawaz Khan, called them to his house on the pretext of contracting their marriage. However, he shot both of them dead, he added. The accused managed to flee the scene. The police registered the case and started an investigation.

Adviser inquires after injured child

LAHORE: Adviser on Health Kh. Salman Rafique inquired after 9-year-old Faryad of Sheikhupura who is under treatment at Jinnah Hospital and directed that best treatment facilities be provided to the child who was thrown into a burning field. According to a handout issued here on Tuesday, JHL Medical Superintendent Dr. Zia Ullah told the adviser that 20 percent body of the child had been affected. He said that Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College and Professor of Pediatric Surgery Prof. Mehmood Shaukat was personally treating the patient and his condition was improving.

Employees stage protest in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: All Class-IV Employees Association Tuesday staged protest against the government for not upgrading their scale. Led by its president Afsar Khan Kheshgi, general secretary Mohammad Waris and others, the protesters were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands. Speaking on the occasion, the association leaders accused the rulers of not upgrading their service. They warned that they would continue their agitation on daily basis if their demands were not met.

Genade hurled at Hangu mosque

HANGU: Unidentified persons hurled a hand-grenade into a mosque in Barh Abbaskhel area in Hangu district on Tuesday, official sources said. They said that people informed the police and the bomb disposal unit (BDU) official defused it. “The people were inside the mosque when unidentified persons hurled the hand-grenade and escaped. The hand-grenade did not explode, which was defused by the BDU officials,” said an official. The police registered the case and started investigation.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has set aside the appointment orders of Dr Shazia Qureshi, Principal Punjab University Law College (PULC) as Professor and Dean Law College and she has been reverted back to the post of Associate Professor, as she holds the post before her selection in said capacity.Dr Shazia Qureshi is wife of PU Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah was hearing a petition of Javed Sami and Shumaila Gul against Dr Shazia Qureshi’s appointment. The petitioners took up the plea that appointment of Dr Shazia as Professor of Law and Dean of Faculty of Law was violation of the provisions of the Constitution of Pakistan.

Mystery shrouds death of Class IV student in Nankana

NANKANA SAHIB: A Class IV student died mysteriously at the Government Girls Fatima Jinnah High School here on Tuesday. Mubashir, 10, went to a water cooler to drink water but suddenly fell unconscious. He was shifted to the DHQ Hospital where he died. On information, Mubashir’s father Riasat Ali and relatives reached the hospital and staged a demonstration against the teachers. They alleged that he died due to the torture of teachers. Meanwhile, the doctors told the protesters that there were no torture marks on the body of Mubashir. They said that the autopsy would confirm the cause of his death but the family refused and took the body with them for burial.

Two prisoners run away in Jamrud

LANDIKOTAL: Two prisoners escaped from the heavily-guarded Levies Lockup in Shahkas area of Jamrud tehsil in Khyber Agency, official sources said. The sources said that the two prisoners, who were under trial, mysteriously escaped from the lockup situated in the Khyber Agency’s Levies headquarters in Shahkas. The escapees were identified as Shah Jee, a resident of Qambarkhel area in Bara tehsil and Bilal, a resident of Mansehra district. When contacted, officials said that one of the two persons was a drug addict and the other was arrested in connection with a fraud case. They said that investigation had been launched after suspending some Khassadars and Levies personnel for negligence. Meanwhile, the Khassadars recovered 67 kilograms of hashish from a warehouse in Wazir Dhand area of Jamrud and arrested four men.

Girl among two shot dead in Charsadda

CHARSADDA: Unidentified gunmen shot dead two persons including a girl student and injured another in the limits of Mandani Police Station on Tuesday, official sources said. They said that gunmen riding a motorcycle fired at Ikramullah in Mandani bazaar, killing him on the spot. Two girl students identified as Amina Bibi and Ayesha Bibi also sustained bullet injuries in the indiscriminate firing. The injured were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Charsadda where Amina succumbed to her injuries while condition of the other girl was stated to be stable. Motive behind the killing was stated to be an old enmity. Following the incident, the dwellers of the area staged a protest rally and observed shutter down. They asked the government to provide security to the people and arrest the killers. The police registered the case and started investigation.

Factory looted in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: Four dacoits took away cash and mobile phones from a factory at the Sanat Road in the Sabzi Mandi police limits on Tuesday. The dacoits broke into the factory of Abu Bakar and made off with cash and mobile phones. Hearing the noise, people rushed to the spot and overpowered one of the four dacoits and thrashed him while the others fled. Later, the dacoit was handed over to the police. The dacoit was identified as Mobeen of Katcha Khiali Road.

Two highwaymen held in Okara

OKARA: Two of the four highwaymen who had injured the Sadr SHO Inspector Mehr Ismail two days ago were arrested by the police here on Tuesday. The SHO was injured by four highwaymen when he was patrolling two days ago. The police started chasing the highwaymen but they managed to escape. On Tuesday, police called footprint tracers Amir Ali and Muhammad Saadi and with their help, succeeded in arresting the ringleader and his accomplice. Police are conducting raids to arrest the remaining highwaymen. Meanwhile, the DPO awarded cash prize of Rs5,000 to footprint tracers.

Village without power for 20 years

TOBA TEK SINGH: Azafi Abadi of Chak 351/JB, Kalyan Das, has been without electricity for about 20 years. Talking to newsmen in Gojra on Tuesday, Shahbaz Ahmad and other villagers said that Azafi Abadi comprising more than 200 houses was only 3km from the Gojra City. They said it had been set up about 20 years ago and since then it was without electricity. They said politicians came to them for getting votes with the promise to provide electricity but they did not fulfil their promise.

Woman killed in Gujranwala accident

GUJRANWALA: A woman was killed in a road accident on Tuesday. Hanif and his wife Wajeeha Bibi of Rahwali were moving on a motorcycle, when they reached near Aziz Chowk in the Aroop police area a speeding tractor trolley hit them. As a result, Wajeeha died on the spot and Hanif suffered critical injuries.

Eight suspects held in Jamrud

JAMRUD: The security forces arrested eight suspects during a search and targetted operation in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency on Tuesday, official sources said. The security forces launched a search and strike operation in Godar area early in the day. The sources said eight suspects were rounded up during the search operation.
