LAHORE: With delegates from different parts of Pakistan debating diverse global issues, the first-ever four-day COMSATS International Model United Nations (CIMUN’15) concluded here Monday. Renowned educationist and career counsellor Syed Azhar Husnain Abidi was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony. He gave away shields to the outstanding delegates in different categories. The overall best delegate award was won by Lahore Grammar School (LGS). Programme Director of the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Dual Degree Programme Dr Muhammad Ahmed Farooqui, CIMUN Secretary General Asad Raza and President Omer Mir were also present on the occasion. CIMUN’15 attracted around 150 delegates from schools, colleges and universities from different cities of the country. The four-day Model United Nations (MUN) also featured social events on the sideline of the CIMUN’15 including global village, a fashion show and ghazal night followed by dinner. Human rights activist and makeup artist Musarrat Misbah was the guest speaker at the event ‘Social Responsibility Programme’. In his keynote address at the concluding ceremony, Syed Abidi lauded the CIMUN’15 organisers for providing an excellent opportunity to the students. He said the MUN experience would go a long way in expanding vision of the students and would be an added value along with education to the students. The recipient of the most coveted civil award Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Syed Abidi, was of the view that such events helped the students to know as to how to carry forward and characterise themselves in the competitive world. Syed Abidi, who has represented Pakistan in over 100 seminars, moots and fora, appreciated the students for doing research to debate international issues saying this exercise had great impact on the students in future life. Dr Muhammad Ahmed Farooqui urged the students to think about the changing boundaries not just in terms of geographical but in terms of educational and social as well. He announced that after successful event this year, the CIIT would again hold the CIMUN early next year. He also appreciated the organising committee and the CIIT Lahore Debating Society (CLDS.) The event, CIMUN’15, was organised by the CLDS in association with Nexus Events and PR for which 50 percent funding was provided by the institute while the rest by sponsors.
