TOBA TEK SINGH: A survey report of an NGO on the budget 2013-14 has revealed that 60.7 per cent money collected through the Faroogh-e-Taleem Fund from the students and the allocated money by the government for government schools met only 39.3 per cent of the requirements of the schools.
While addressing a press conference by project director Raja Shoaib Akbar and district coordinator Muhammad Shahid on Tuesday said that it was also strange that the approved grants of the schools were transferred to the schools’ councils in the third quarter of the said financial year. They added that the survey was done in 66 schools and although the secondary schools were equipped with most of the basic educational facilities and infrastructure, but several primary and elementary schools were deprived of such basic facilities like furniture for teachers and students, drinking water, washrooms, sports equipments and computer labs. They said that the survey report recommended that the government should issue orders to the schools managements to ensure the implementation of ‘Free and Compulsory Education Act 2014’ and make sure that the students were not charged for education. They said that the government should also make efforts to provide missing facilities to the schools.
