Sindh, Balochistan seem content with English black law: CJ

SC reserves verdict in police reforms case

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Jawwad S Khawaja on Friday observed that Sindh and Balochistan were seemingly contented with the English black law. He made these remarks as the Supreme Court (SC) reserved its verdict in the police reforms case and remarked that the court had prepared a draft for police reforms and would issue it on Saturday.
The bench ruled that all the provinces would be given 15 days to implement the apex court’s drafted reforms. The three member bench of the apex court, headed by CJ Khawaja and comprising Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Qazi Faez Isa, heard the case and reserved its ruling.
During the course of proceedings, the court was informed that the Police Order 1861 was applied in Sindh and Balochistan while in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Amended Police Order 2002 was implemented.
Justice Dost Muhammad Khan remarked that the Police Order 2002 was fully implemented in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa without any amendment. He observed that police in KPK was free from political pressure and termed its police system better than any other province.
Chief Justice Jawwad S Khawaja remarked the government was confident that the existing police system was the best and there was no need for any amendment in the Police Order.
He remarked that the court had drafted the police reforms and would issue it on Saturday and the provinces will be given 15 days for its implementation.
