ISLAMABAD: Governor Ishratul Ebad was kept away from the deliberations and briefing on the security situation for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that took place in the city on Wednesday.
It was a conspicuous message indicating an imminent reshuffle at the top constitutional position in Sindh. The change of rendezvous for the highest level meeting from the Military Base in the metropolitan is yet another significant hint about the ongoing tangle.
Highly placed sources told The News that at first place, it’s tantamount to be an expression of lack of confidence in the incumbent governor and he, while feeling it a humiliation, could offer stepping down. He will have to consult his superiors before taking the dignified step.
Interestingly, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah was also asked to join the meeting after a while when the sensitive subjects had been covered by the participants in the discussions.
Likewise, the governor could also be allowed to be part of the discussion for ‘cosmetic consumption’ but he has outright ignored it.He was sitting beside the prime minister in the stock exchange function but appeared shaky and wasn’t in his usual disposition.
The political observers are of the view that Governor Ebad could adjust himself in accordance with the new developments but it has yet to be determined what role could be entrusted to him. “His utility cannot be discarded since he has so much to offer,” the observers said.
In the meanwhile, sources in the exalted House told this scribe that Prime Minister Office hadn’t received any formal request from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) or any other political group for a meeting with the prime minister today or yesterday.
As such, no request is pending with the office. There was no schedule of any meeting between the prime minister and any political group during his Wednesday’s visit to Karachi. The engagements of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Karachi have gone according to the schedule and no slot was fixed for any such meeting, the sources added.
It is understood that the National Assembly is in session and Prime Minister Nawaz had detailed meeting with the Parliamentary Groups in the National Assembly on Tuesday. The MQM was also present in the meeting. The members of the National Assembly (MNAs) belonging to the MQM including their Parliamentary Leader Abdul Rashid Godial also took part in the discussions that took place in chamber of the prime minister in the Parliament House.
He did talk to the prime minister and no meeting was tied up for Wednesday during the brief trip of the premier to Karachi. Dr Farooq Sattar and Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiquee were also present in the meeting, the sources said.
The sources pointed out that the prime minister expressed his satisfaction about the ongoing operation in Karachi. He lauded the performance of the law-enforcing agencies in the city and patted their back. The sources said that the operation would continue in Karachi with enhanced pace since it is targeting criminals and terrorists.
