Waqar fiddles

By our correspondents
November 28, 2015
This refers to the article, ‘Waqar fiddles while Rome burns’ (November 22, page 23). Winning and losing is part of cricket but there is no room in it for players, coaches or managers with a tainted past or a track record for indiscipline, conflict of interests and issues of integrity. Can anybody explain the merits of the decision taken by Waqar Younis to drop Sarfraz Ahmed from matches in World Cup 2015 while giving preference to Umar Akmal, who has dropped numerous catches and failed to score runs in the past?
In addition to this, the manner in which Waqar Younis has treated Younis Khan is unacceptable. Younis Khan is an excellent cricketer who has given strength to the middle-order batsmen of our team over the years. Discipline should be enforced and the team selection and the choice of players for the 15-member squad should be based on merit rather than the whims of the coach, manager or even the captain.
