This refers to the editorial, ‘Message from the US’ (September 1). US National Security Adviser Susan Rice came with a specific message and made disparaging remarks against our country in the context of violence in Afghanistan. As usual, the US wants us to do more. The blunt statement of the security adviser was humiliating and should be condemned. Our response was meek and apologetic. It seems our officials were unprepared for the unexpected onslaught.
The army chief and the government is on record as having said that Operation Zarb-e-Azb is across-the-board and is being carried out against all terrorist and militant outfits irrespective of their affiliation. The Haqqani Network has been dismantled and our official position has been that we will not support any terrorist outfit or allow our soil to be used against any other country. Perhaps, Susan Rice is either ill-informed of the current situation in North Waziristan or else was speaking the mind of Indian leaders or their supporters in Afghanistan. The time has come to give a proper response to such blatant accusations from the US. We have suffered the most from terrorism/militancy and have made enormous sacrifices to combat terrorism on our soil. We are genuinely interested in peace in Afghanistan. It is also necessary that we stop begging for aid under the CSF (Coalition Support Fund) which impinges upon our foreign policy.
