Officials at district levels do not lag behind in committing corruption. But their corruption is more clandestine and organised. A layman cannot discover their corruption.
There is a need to take effective action against corrupt district treasury officers, among others who have become billionaires in some cases. The auditor general of Pakistan and accountant generals in provinces should play their role to discourage notoriously corrupt accounts officers. Anti-corruption bodies – both at the federal and provincial levels – should expose financial crimes of the district treasury offices/district accounts officers in Sindh and other provinces.
