Nearly 1,300 people died in Karachi mostly due to heatstroke last month. The kind of climate change we have been experiencing in this parts of world calls for planting as much trees as possible to make Karachi green.
The city needs massive mangrove/palm tree parks. It has a long coastal belt including Cape Monze and Sunehra Beach that are suitable for such parks. But unfortunately, like other parts of the city, these coastal belts are a victim of land grabbing. The worst thing is that some government officials are allegedly supporting the land mafia. The Sindh government should take notice of the activities of such unscrupulous elements.
