One is reminded of the popular adage, ‘make a mountain out of a molehill’ when one looks at the recently launched report of the Judicial Commission. How one can ever forget the tall claims Imran Khan made during the protest march about rigging in the 2013 elections. In doing so, Imran managed to get the support of his ardent supporters. What, however, he miserably failed to appreciate is that in the absence of concrete evidence all his claims about rigging would turn out to be mere rhetoric. This is exactly what happened.
What the JC report has clearly documented is that though the electoral system is imperfect it is not fatally flawed and is capable of delivering a result that is a fair representation of the will of the people despite attempts to corrupt the process. Nawaz should extend an invitation to Imran and all the other political parties to steer the country back on the path to progress and prosperity.
