The CDA has again announced yet another auction of newly created plots. During the last decade or so, it has become common practice for the CDA to redesignate green areas in different sectors of the federal capital as commercial and residential plots and then sell them off. The approval to do so is obtained on the pretext of severe shortage of funds at the CDA but allegedly one of the main incentives is the allocation of some plots to their own staff.
Nonetheless the habit of creating new plots by destroying green areas has devastated the natural beauty of the federal capital and the city is fast becoming a congested, urban jungle of concrete structures. Instead of thinking selfishly about short-term monetary gains, can we, for one, think about our future generations and try to preserve Islamabad as a green city?
