Pemra’s motto is: ‘Improving the standards of information, education and entertainment’. But what we see so often on our TV screens proves otherwise. If mind-numbing drama serials and groups of politicians engaged in heated discussion with no end or even a plausible start to begin with are considered examples of ‘improved standards of information, education and entertainment’ then perhaps the good folks down at Oxford Dictionary should change the meaning of the word ‘improved’.
Instead of telling us the bare truth – the truth which we desperately need – we are given glorified news of models arrested for money laundering as if somehow this is the most outrageous incident known to men. We deserve some honesty – now more than ever.
