Earth Day promises

This Earth Day was celebrated with individuals and groups trying to help the planet by planting trees, picking up roadside trash, conducting various programmes for recycling and conservation, using recyclable containers for snacks and lunches. Some people were encouraged to sign petitions to governments, calling for stronger or immediate action to stop global warming and to reverse environmental destruction.
Unfortunately, very few people in our country are concerned about the negative effects of pollution on themselves and the environment. The need is to create awareness among people of the urgency to respond to environmental challenges. The younger generation should also be encouraged to participate actively through awareness campaigns, documentations and discussions, mass forestation and tree plantation campaigns.
