Those opposing madressah reforms should be told that they are necessary for several reasons. First, their syllabus is outdated. Second, madressahs teach students to become only prayer leaders or fiery orators. Third, the scope of their curriculum is narrow and the essence of Islam has been totally forgotten. This is why there is a dire need to overhaul the system of madressahs to bring a positive change in society. A consensus should be sought from different schools of thoughts and those opposing it should be asked to give alternate solutions to the problems in society. In this regard, scholars from international universities can be hired to streamline the system.
To mobilise people print and social media, scholars, the educated class and civil society can play an effective role to persuade all and sundry. Those opposing the reforms should be made realised that it is not being done at the behest of some foreign power. Everyone should contribute towards this noble cause to make Pakistan a prosperous country.
