This refers to The News picture captioned ‘Workers fixing barbwires on the outer wall of (the) Islamabad College for Girls...(page 14, January 7)’ The concerned authorities should be asked: did the terrorists enter the Army Public School in Peshawar by scaling its outer walls? No. They entered the school through the main gate dressed as security personnel. Governments in the past had also taken measures like fenced walls, barbwires, etc but they failed to serve their purpose except instilling a sense of fear in the minds of students. This way we are depriving them of a sound educational environment. Do we want students to become fearful, psychologically disturbed persons or do we want to make them strong?
The resources being wasted on such a futile exercise can be spent on making the quality of education better, to provide education to under-privileged masses, many of whom have become terrorists for want of basic needs. Preventing terrorist attacks is the responsibility of intelligence agencies and security forces in which they have miserably failed. And yet nobody is asking our security gurus to resign.
