KARACHI: Ahsan completed a hat-trick of title wins by emerging triumphant in the latest edition of the Swiss team event organised by the Karachi Bridge Associates (KBA) here at the Aslam Bridge Hall, housed in the National Stadium, over the weekend.
According to the information made available by the Mind Sports Association of Pakistan (MSAP) here on Monday, Ahsan, comprising Ahsan Zahir Rizvi, Shaikh Abdul Muqeet, Anwer Kizilbash, Nasir Reza Khan and Ghulam Muhammad, extended their purple patch by winning the competition for the third time running.
Seven teams took part in the latest of the KBA’s weekly tournaments of duplicate bridge. Ahsan won the event by accumulating 59.17 Victory Points (VPs).
They recorded four straight wins over Hasnain (12.61), Mushrub (12.90), Foxy (19.44) and GFQ (14.77). Mushrub, having Rehana Saigol, Paro Reza, Mushahid Siddiqui and Zafar Zaki, lost narrowly to Mazhar (11.38) and Ahsan (7.10), but won against Hasnain (17.56) and Foxy (13.45) to claim the runners-up spot.
As many as 19 pairs competed in the KBA’s Mitchell Movement contest which witnessed a very close run between three top contenders, Ziaullah-Hamid, Pervaiz Mirza-Masood Mazhar and Anwer Kizilbash-Shaikh Abdul Muqeet.
In the last round, Nasim Arzoo-Dr Sarfraz Ahmed gave Zia and Hamed tough time which affected their position and they dropped from the top to the third position.
On the other hand, Anwer Kizilbash-Abdul Muqeet were made to fight every inch, they won the event by scoring 65.83 percent, followed by Pervaiz Mirza-Masood Mazhar (64.26 percent) and Ziaullah Baig-Hamed Mohiuddin (61.77 percent).
Meanwhile, the KBA has announced that the Defence Club, in DHA Phase II, will host the monthly pairs contest on Tuesday (today) at their premises. It is an open event and commences at 6 pm.
