PML-N secures 2 district council seats in Mansehra

MANSEHRA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has clinched two district council seats in Local Government’s by-election held peacefully in the district on Sunday.

Shehryar Khan, the nephew of Senator Azam Khan Swati, who had resigned as district councillor from Khattai Union Council after quitting Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI). He retained his seat in the by-election after contesting the election on PML-N ticket.

Shehryar Khan secured 2243 and elected district councilor unofficially. Mohammad Khattai of PTI secured 1214 votes.Javed Salar of PML-N also secured 2883 votes and elected district councillor from Hilkot union council and his rival Shah Qabool, an independent contender secured 1715 votes.

The heavy contingents of police backed by army were deployed at polling stations.Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hazara Range, Akhtar Hayat Khan Gandapur, Ddeputy Commissioner Iqbal Hussain and District Police Officer Ihsan Saifullah visited the polling stations and reviewed the security measures.Meanwhile, polling concluded in the Haripur district amid low turnout and minor scuffles.

According to details, by elections for one district council and six village council seats continued uninterrupted from 8am to 5pm except in UC Dingi where opposite groups clashed with each other over a minor issue. No major violence was reported from any part of the district.
