MINGORA: Eight persons were killed and six others sustained injuries when a pick-up van carrying tourists fell into a deep ravine in the Lalko area in the district on Tuesday.
Rescue 1122 officials said that a group of tourists was going to the scenic Gabin Jabba when the driver lost control over the steering wheel and the vehicle plunged into the gorge in the Lalko area.
Eight persons identified as Imran, Akbar Shah, Zakir, Shafiq Khan, Abdur Rahman, Shoaib, Umar Shah and Javed Khan were killed and Maaz, Murad, Taj Muhammad, Umar Zamin, Samiullah and Rafiullah were injured. Soon after the accident, the Rescue 1122 team rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies and rescued the injured persons.
The Rescue 1122 medical team provided first aid to the injured on the spot and then shifted them to the Civil Hospital, Matta. Three of the injured were stated to be in precarious condition. The dead and injured belonged to Bazkhela, Drushkhela and Mandar of Matta Tehsil. The tourists were going to Gabin Jabba to enjoy the Eid holidays.
