Youth volunteers engaged for social accountability
Rawalpindi
Sustainable Social Development Organisation (SSDO) in collaboration of Accountability Lab and Making all Voices Countable (MAVC) extended a campaign for social accountability in Rawalpindi.
SSDO engaged 30 more youth volunteers to extend its campaign at massive level in Rawalpindi. Youth volunteers belonging to different universities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad joined hands with SSDO to raise a massive campaign to monitor the issues of public service delivery in Rawalpindi. The campaign will be focused in NA-54, NA-55 and NA-56 of Rawalpindi.
It was informed by Executive Director of SSDO Syed Kausar Abbas while talking to 'The News' in Rawalpindi here on Monday. “The citizens have the fundamental right to hold the public institutions and elected representatives accountable on the basis of their performance at constituency and assembly level. We have engaged youth of Rawalpindi in the social accountability campaign to make them aware about their roles and responsibilities in the governance structure of Pakistan. The Youth Accountability Ambassadors have now extended their work to other volunteers and engaged 30 more volunteers to take part in the campaign. The volunteers will monitor day-to-day performance of district and provincial government and as well as the performance of members of provincial and national assembly to make them aware about the citizens’ led accountability,” he said.
Kausar Abbas also said that the volunteers will use Right to Information Laws to seek the information of different public institutions and highlight them to relevant platform and as well as to organize public hearings in the constituencies of members of provincial and national assembly in NA-54, NA-55 and NA-56.
He also addressed the orientation session of new volunteers and said that “We look forward to work together on a range of issues, including education, health and promotion of sustainable development in Rawalpindi”, he said.
