KARACHI: The highly-anticipated inaugural edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is slated to start today (February 4). Cricket fans and pundits have huge expectations from the event. The league consists of five teams — Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi, Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators — which will battle it out for a winning title. A total of 24 matches will be played in the event in Dubai and Sharjah.

Lahore Qalandars has been launched in an impressive manner with all kinds of marketing gimmicks creating a tremendous reaction among fans. The team will be led by Azhar Ali and consists of established T20 specialists like Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo. Karachi Kings will be led by Shoaib Malik and boasts a power-packed batting line-up. Misbah-ul-Haq is the skipper of Islamabad United, which includes stars like Andre Russell and Shane Watson. Quetta Gladiators will be led by wicketkeeper-batsmanSarfaraz Ahmed and consists of top rated players like Kevin Petersen and Kumar Sangakarra.

Featuring 69 local and 29 foreign stars, the five-team, 24-match league will be held from February 4–23. The winning side, meanwhile, will bring home $1 million. February 4, 2016, marks an extremely important date in the history of Pakistan cricket. The idea which was first conceived in 2012 is finally going to turn into a reality; the curtain will rise and the PSL will surface onto the stage of lucrative Twenty20 cricket leagues.

Geo Super has made special arrangements for the live broadcast of all the matches of the PSL including colourful inauguration ceremony. The first match will be played between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators at 10:00 pm, followed by a colourful, star-studded opening ceremony.
