The additional district and sessions court of District East on Wednesday confirmed the bail application of Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader and the party’s nominee for the post of mayor, Waseem Akhtar, in a case pertaining to violations of the loudspeaker act.
Akhtar, along with Haider Abbas Rizvi and other MQM leaders was booked by the Solider Bazaar police for alleged rioting and violating the loudspeaker act and Section 144 of CrPC. According to the prosecution, the applicant along with other MQM leaders held a protest rally near the Quaid’s mausoleum and created hurdles for general public through blocking roads. The police also alleged that MQM leaders including Akhtar made speeches in violation of the loudspeaker act.
The court also adjourned the hearing on the bail application of Haider Abbass Rizvi on his request of seeking exemption from appearance due to political engagements.
