LAHORE:The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association office-bearers have raised their voice against, what they called, the anti-education policies of the Punjab government, and announced a protest movement.
FAPUSA Punjab Chapter President Dr Abdul Sattar Malik, General Secretary Dr Ahtisham Ali and the representatives of academic staff associations of various universities, in a crowded press conference at Lahore Press Club, made this announcement on Wednesday.
Dr Ahtisham Ali said demanded the notification issued by the Finance Department be immediately re-notified and the chief minister should announce release of funds for giving special allowance to the university teachers and employees without any grade discrimination. He said the PhD allowance in other provinces has reached Rs 25,000 but the Punjab government was still limiting it to Rs 10,000. The FAPUSA Punjab president said if the government did not accept the demand for special allowance by August 10, university teachers and employees across Punjab would start protesting from the FAPUASA platform, completely boycotting the educational and teaching process. The universities will be locked and protests will be held in all major cities along with teachers and employees as well as other civil society organisations.
