Complaints of persisting water scarcity in various neighborhoods of District West are mainly due to the shortage of support from the Hub Dam source.
According to Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, 50 to 65 gallons per day (MGD) of water was being supplied to the areas instead of 100 MGD because of the shortage from Hub Dam.
Residents of the areas said that the water supply runs for only three hours in 24 hours for residential localities but the water hydrants get water 24 hours a day with the connivance of the water board staff and District West administration.
They said if the load was reduced on hydrants in the Manghopir area, the water supply to the residents would improve considerably. The water scarcity had become a boon for the private water hydrants and tankers as they supply water at their whim, charging exorbitant rates, they said. The residents requested the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice of the water scarcity.
