Team spirit, passion stressed to eradicate polio from region

MULTAN: South Punjab Health Secretary Muhammad Ajmal Bhatti Monday stressed team spirit and passion to eradicate polio from the region.

Chairing a meeting, the health secretary asked all officials and field staff concerned to strive for the complete eradication of polio from all districts of south Punjab. He said more training and continuous efforts would meet the challenge of the disease.

Additional Secretary Coordination Primary and Secondary Health Care Department Punjab Sundas Irshad also attended the meeting. The meeting discussed various issues arising in all districts of South Punjab during the recent anti-polio campaign.

The secretary instructed all Chief Executive Officers of health to formulate plans to eradicate polio completely and activate anti-polio counters and teams in specialised healthcare hospitals in their districts.

Sundas Irshad also addressed the participants. 50 power pilferers nabbed in a day in South Punjab: The Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) caught 50 power pilferers during separate operations launched throughout the South Punjab in a day, officials said.

The Mepco teams accompanying task forces raided different places in Multan, Vehari, Sahiwal, Rahimyar Khan, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalnagar, Khanewal, and Dera Ghazi Khan and detected theft of over 49,000 electricity units.

A sum of over Rs 819,000 fine was imposed on them over involvement in tampering with body of meters, direct supply, installing loop in meters, slowing down meters, meter dead stop and meter screen wash.

Weather forecast: The local Met office has forecast hot and dry weather with chances of dust raising winds for the city and its suburbs during next 24 hours.On Monday, maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded as 39.2 degree centigrade and 27.0 degree centigrade respectively. The humidity was recorded 54 per cent at 8am and 35 per cent at 5pm. The sun will rise at 5:16am and set at 7:21pm (today).
