Fire erupts in Metro bus
LAHORE:A metro bus got burnt when a fire erupted due to a short-circuit here Thursday.The incident happened near the Minar-e-Pakistan and the passengers had to jump off the vehicle to save their lives. The bus service remained suspended for sometime.
The incident occurred when a fleet of buses was heading for Shahdara, said Punjab Mass Transit Authority General Manager Uzair Shah. Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. However, no casualty was reported.
Mr Shah said that a preliminary report suggested a spark in a wire of air conditioner caused the fire. Three arrested: Three suspects were arrested and drugs were seized from their possession Thursday.Defence B police arrested a suspect and recovered 30 bottles of liquor from his possession. The suspect was identified as Jhara. South Cantt police arrested drug-pusher Umar and recovered 1kg charas from his possession. Harbanspura police arrested Nasir Masih and Adnan and recovered 200 bottles of liquor from their possession.
Meanwhile, police in crackdowns arrested 265 proclaimed offenders, court absconders and targeted offenders during this month. DIG Operations Sajid Kiani said out of these 265 offenders, 139 were proclaimed offenders whereas 30 targeted offenders and 96 were court absconders.
suspects: Kahna Police on Thursday arrested three suspected bike lifters. They were identified as Asim, Faizan and Zeeshan. Police also recovered three bikes and weapons from their custody. The suspects have confessed to various crimes. Meanwhile, Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate Police arrested five suspected kite-sellers Thursday. The arrested were identified as Saqiq, Shahid, Saleem, Aqeel and Asif.
Cop stabbed: A police constable was stabbed to death by unidentified suspects in the Kahna police limits on Thursday. The victim identified as Abdul Qayyum was currently performing duty in Judicial Wing at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh. On Wednesday night, he was asleep in his house. On Thursday morning, his brother came to his house and found him in a pool of blood. The unidentified suspect(s) had stabbed him in the head. The family of the victim informed police that the victim had contracted a second marriage. His in-laws often threatened him. Brother of the victim, Javed Iqbal, told police that his brother was apprehensive of teh threats. Police have removed the body to morgue and satrted investogation.
