PM for disciplinary action against Hyderabad AIG
KARACHI: The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has directed the Establishment Division to take action against grade 21 Police officer, Dr. Jameel, Additional Inspector General, Hyderabad on the allegations corruption, misuse of authority and occupying government property under rule 18 (2) of Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2020.
According to a copy of the official letter, which is available with ‘The News’, Muhammad Azam Khan, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, on behalf of PM Khan, directed the Establishment Division to take action against Dr. Jameel, under the Civil Servants Rules for involvement in financial and moral corruption, misuse of authority and undesirable activities.
The Establishment Division has also written to the Sindh Govt directing action against Additional IG Dr. Jameel. The Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Mumtaz Shah confirmed to ‘The News’ that a letter was sent to Sindh Home department directing inquiry against the said police officer and submitting its report to the Sindh government.
According to the PMO directive, the officer is heading 15 districts of Hyderabad range and allegedly collecting Rs. 1.5 to Rs. 2 million from each district on monthly basis, besides taking money on postings and transfers of under command police officials. Furthermore, he is also stated to have illegally occupied three rooms at the Circuit House, Hyderabad. His two sons are misusing their father's position and carrying out firing practice in Circuit House which is located well inside a populated area.
In view of above, the directive concluded that the Prime Minister has desired that Establishment Division, Islamabad being cadre administrator, to formally proceed against the said officer Dr. Jameel, in terms of rule 18 (2) of Civil Servants (Efficiency & Discipline) Rules, 2020.
Apart from the letter of the Prime Minister to the Establishment Division, PM Secretariat and Establishment Division’s also directed the Sindh government to take action against the said officer. The Addl IGP's alleged activities were widely discussed for the last many months in the media, both electronic and print, including ‘The News’. This included the formation of an illegal ‘in Regional Crime Control Cell (RCCC), alleged illegal occupation of the rooms of Circuit House Hyderabad, other actions of misuse of authority, role of his sons’ etc.
In fact ‘The News’ on April 4, 2020 ran a story titled “ Over and above rules: Hyderabad Police set up special cell against criminals.” This cell was established in violation of laws and Police rules, and headed by a DSP. According to Addl IG Dr. Jameel, its objective was to infiltrate and collect information of illegalities and to take swift action against criminals in the Hyderabad range. Taking action over The News story, the IGP, Sindh Mushtaq Mahar declared the "cell illegal and in violation of laws and police rules."
