Woman, two children killed in Jamrud roof collapse
JAMRUD: A woman and her two children were killed and another sustained injuries when the roof of a room in their house collapsed at the Ghundi area in Jamrud tehsil of the Khyber tribal district on Monday.
Locals said that roof of a room of the house of one Said Nawaz, a resident of Ghundi area, caved in when the family members were asleep early in the day, burying the inmates alive under the debris.
As a result, his wife, nine-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son were killed while another child sustained injuries in the incident. The local residents retrieved the bodies and rescued the injured from the rubble on a self-help basis.
They said that the house was in a dilapidated condition and the family was unable to reconstruct it due to poverty. The funeral prayers for the deceased were offered and they laid to rest at the village graveyard. The elders appealed to the government to compensate the family for the grave loss.
