LANDIKOTAL: Daily wagers and taxicab drivers on Sunday staged a protest rally against the closure of Torkham border for pedestrian movement.

The protesters have also staged a protest camp in Landikotal bazaar and hoisted black flags in the premises. Speaking on the occasion, Israr Shinwari and labour union president Farman Shinwari said that border closure for pedestrian movement stopped entry of people into Pakistan as well as the daily wagers working in Torkham border town.

They said that Torkham gate remained open for trucks but individuals were banned from crossing the border a month ago. They said the government should allow labourers to work while adopting Corona SOP so that they could earn livelihood for their families. The protesters threatened to block the Landikotal-Torkham highway if the ban on pedestrian movement was not lifted.

Trader’s office looted: Meanwhile, unidentified robbers stole cash from the office of Honey Enterprises and Hayatullah Customs Agency at Torkham border. Police in their initial report said that thieves had broken the locks of the office and decamped with cash. However, they did not give the exact figure of the stolen cash amount. They said an FIR had been lodged and investigation started to arrest the culprits.
