What a shame!

June 17, 2021

While the world is becoming more civilised and educated, we are getting used to of dirty politics. We had never thought in our childhood that our sacred places like the National Assembly (NA), where our top leaders sit down and make decisions, would witness the irresponsible behaviour of our current leaders. The NA is the place where legendary politicians like Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Liaquat Ali Khan, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto talked about the nation’s welfare and interests and won the hearts of millions. Have today’s politicians not learned anything from these leaders? We can only feel sorry for what happened the other day. What a sorry sight it was when elected politicians behaved badly and used abusive language against each other. They also threw the copies of the budget copies at each other.

They should have acted maturely. Our politicians must realise that they present the image of Pakistan to the world. They must understand that their actions are dangerous for Pakistan and are likely to pollute the minds of our future generation. This disrespectful behaviour should be condemned.

On Tuesday (June 15), the National Assembly session was adjourned after a fight broke out between the opposition and treasury members. It is important to mention that these lawmakers are elected so that they can represent the people of their constituencies in the NA. This incident will certainly have a negative impact on the country’s global image. The situation could have been easily avoided however, our leaders continued fighting with each other. Although the NA speaker tried his best to keep the situation under control, no one paid attention to what he was saying. Finally, the security staff had to intervene to control the situation.

Parliamentarians who were responsible for turning the NA into a fighting bill should be punished according to the law. It was shocking to see how our lawmakers abused each other and display irresponsible behaviour. They were also seen throwing the copies of the budget at each other. Some lawmakers helplessly watched the shameful spectacle and tried to defuse the situation. There are certain rules that lawmakers must follow inside the National Assembly. Our politicians must know how to listen to the criticism of the opponents. The NA is a place where lawmakers talk about the issues that directly affect ordinary people. It shouldn’t be turned into a battleground of political rivals who can’t tolerate each other’s presence. This immoral behaviour of our politicians is not acceptable to their voters. It has been (and should be) condemned across the country. This kind of behaviour gives Pakistan a bad name.

Our politicians must realise that their immaturity will not help them solve people’s problems. The issue of citizens must be discussed peacefully in the NA.
