KARACHI: Afghanistan’s hard-hitting batsman Hazratullah Zazai equalled Kamran Akmal’s fastest fifty record of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) when on Tuesday night he hammered a 26-ball 63 to guide Peshawar Zalmi to a commanding six-wicket win when they chased a 109-run target in 11 overs against Karachi Kings at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Paktia-born 23-year-old Afghanistan’s white ball cricketer smacked four sixes and eight fours in his superb knock. He brought in his fifty off 17 balls and thus equalled his teammate Kamran Akmal’s record for the fastest fifty in the PSL history.

Zazai was extremely happy with his feat. “When I came here I got a lot of support from the coach and the skipper and got a lot of motivation from them,” Zazai said after the match.

“During practice too they wanted to give me an opportunity. In the beginning when I was managing my shots I thought it was my day and I should take advantage of that,” Zazai said.

He said that his first six off the bowling of Aamir Yamin was fantastic. “I liked all my sixes but the one off Aamir Yamin was my favourite in today’s match,” the batsman said.

He said he is enjoying his stay with Zalmi. “It’s nice to play in the PSL for the first time. We have Inzamam bhai and we have other coaches and I am getting support from them,” Zazai said.
