HARIPUR: Model Criminal Trial Court here on Monday convicted a man over the murder of his wife.Advocate Abdul Razaq Chughtai, the counsel for the victim, told journalists that the convict was awarded 25 years sentence and fine when the prosecution succeeded in proving the offense.

According to the prosecution record, Musarat Yasmin, a nurse at the District Headquarter Hospital Haripur, had been married to Haq Nawaz of Andra Doga village and the couple had three children.

Musarat had purchased a piece of land and constructed a house for her family out of her savings. Since the property was in her name, her husband used to pressure her for transferring property rights in his name, which she refused.

On April 26, 2019, the husband’s demand led to a scuffle between the couple and the angry husband allegedly first locked the children in a separate room and then attacked Musarat with a dagger in the stomach and head, killing her on the spot.

The accused went to the police station and attempted to misguide the police, saying that someone had murdered his wife and later changed the position confessing that he had committed her murder as “she was of loose character”.The police registered a criminal case against Haq Nawaz on the complaint of the victim’s brother Qari Mushtaq.
