Islamabad : Launching the charter of police reforms Thursday, the Sustainable Social Development Organisation (SSD0) has called for planned and well-coordinated use of information technology to gain maximum results.
The main objective of the charter is to contribute into bringing about qualitative change in the policing system of Pakistan.
The charter was formulated after wide spread discussions and consultative meetings with police officers and legislators. Sustainable Social Development Organisation has made an attempt to identify common points that can define research and reform agendas on policing in Pakistan. The report also presented a comparative analysis of all the prevalent police laws in the country. Five major police Acts/Orders which are compared in this document are; The Police Order 2002, The KP Police Act 2017, The Sindh Police (Amendment) Act 2019, The Balochistan Police Act 2011 and The Police Act 1861. From the independence, police reforms have remained the issue of utmost importance in Pakistan. There has been not less than 27 Police Reforms Related Initiatives/Commissions/ Reports/Judgments. This started with the passage of Bill “to introduce a Metropolitan System of Policing in Karachi” in 1948 and the latest one was the “Province of Sindh vs. Shehri Citizens Case” in 2019.
