Five more die of corona, 98 new cases reported in twin cities
Rawalpindi: As many as 98 new patients have been reported positive for coronavirus illness, COVID-19 in the last 24 hours from Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi district while five more patients have died of the illness from the region taking the death toll to 1,729.
It is, however, alarming that the positivity rate of COVID-19 from the Rawalpindi district has once again jumped to over 4.5 per cent in the last 24 hours that remained below four per cent in the previous six days.
On May 25, the positivity rate from Rawalpindi was recorded as 4.88 per cent while from May 26 to 31, it was below four per cent.
In-charge District COVID-19 Cell Rawalpindi Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Jawad Zahid informed ‘The News’ on Tuesday that a total of 1226 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the district in the last 24 hours of which 56 were reported positive for the infection. The positivity rate has been recorded as 4.56 per cent, he said.
Data collected by ‘The News’ on Tuesday has revealed that the total number of patients so far reported from the twin cities has reached 105,545. After another three COVID-19 deaths from Rawalpindi district in the
last 24 hours, the death toll became 967. Another 36 patients belonging to the district have been tested positive in the last 24 hours taking the tally to 24,288 of which 22,792 patients have recovered.
According to Dr. Jawad, a total of 59 confirmed patients were undergoing treatment at the healthcare facilities in town while 470 patients were in home isolation on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the virus has claimed two more lives from ICT in the last 24 hours taking the death toll from the federal capital to 762 while 62 more patients have been reported positive for COVID-19 from ICT that has taken the total number of patients so far tested positive from the federal capital to 81,257.
To date, a total of 75,642 patients from ICT have recovered from coronavirus illness while the number of active cases of the disease has reduced to 4,853 on Tuesday after recovery of 678 patients in the last 24 hours.
