HARIPUR: A district councillor was gunned down at the court premises here on Saturday.

Police officials said District Councillor Javed Khan Jadoon of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had come to the district courts to attend the hearing of a case.

“A man fired at him near the cafeteria of the courts and he died on the spot,” said an official.

Autopsy reports revealed that he had received two bullets in the head which caused his death.

The assailant identified as Junaid Khan, resident of Basti Sher Khan, was disguised as a lawyer.

The police arrested the culprit and shifted him to an undisclosed location.

Sources said the motive behind the killing was said to be an old enmity.

Javed Khan Jadoon contested and won the local bodies election as an independent candidate from Kholiyan Bala Union Council and later joined the PML-N along with his supporters.

Javed Khan had earlier also been attacked by unknown assailants near Toru Dhok village during the elections when he was coming back to his native Basti Buland Khan area after attending a meeting. He had sustained minor injuries in the attack.

However, five of his guards and a driver following him in another vehicle had been killed.

PTI district councillor from Shah Maqsood Union Council, Atif Munsif, and his cousins in Basti Sher Khan area
had been nominated in the first information report of that case.
