LAHORE
Anti-terrorism Court judge Khawaja Zafar Iqbal on Friday sent to jail a pilot on 14-day judicial remand in a crash landing case.
On Friday, Sarwar Road police produced accused pilot Asmat Mehmood before the court and sought extension in his physical remand on the plea to complete the investigation. The counsel of the accused pilot argued about his previously submitted application seeking removal of Anti-Terrorism Act sections from the FIR registered against his client. He said that how the police can implicate his client under terrorism sections just because of crash landing. He said that the due to a technical fault emergency landing was necessary which saved the lives of passengers. Meanwhile, counsel of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) opposed the arguments of Asmat’s counsel saying that he had endangered lives of passengers under the influence and implored the court to extend his physical remand.
However, the court after hearing the arguments of both parties accepted one plea of Asmat’s counsel regarding sending his client to jail instead of physical remand while declined his second plea seeking removal of anti-terrorism sections from the FIR.
